On Friday, October 27 the Harrison boys varsity soccer team won Regionals for the first time in HHS history.

“I am enjoying this, but the greatest part of it for me is knowing that the guys are creating lifelong memories,” Coach Russell said. “In addition to losing some great players to graduation, we lost at least five other potential starters to family moves and other factors…despite losing all of this talent and experience, we have gone farther than ever before.”

Coach Russell spoke about how this experience will change the boys’ playing forever. He also mentioned that even though they have lost many people of great talent they were able to stand tall and come out on top. The reasons they were able to get this far was because of the boldness of the players. Russell specifically mentioned the goalie (Varun Parusothaman, 12) who he believed played well all year.

Senior captain Jacob Honer scored the winning goal for Regionals.

“My dad stopped me before the game and said, ‘Son, if you get a shot, you had better take it,’ ” Jacob Honer, 12 said. “The ball bounced to my feet, and I saw a couple of (potential) passes, but they were giving me a lot of time, so I figured I’d take the shot. Fortunately for us, it went in the upper left. It’s a dream come true.”

Even though they lost in the semi-finals, they still broke a record of being the first HHS boys soccer team to win Regionals.

“It felt so satisfying considering we came out of last season losing the majority of our games,” Hesham Moez, 11 said. “This year we lost more players than we gained and still made history. We are proof that hard work pays off.”
